Description

The DS3820PIMB1A1B is an HMI panel and printed circuit board designed by GE for their Mark IV series. The MKIV manages gas and steam turbine systems and is built on a framework of integrated microcomputers which monitor the turbine system around the clock for issues such as high pressure, over speed, over temperature, and vibration. These microcomputers are also able to automate procedures like control sequencing, speed control, and startup and shutdown.

The DS3820PIMB1A1B is a modification of two PCBs, including the DS3800NPSM. This is an HMI (human machine interface) panel created to fit around a computer display. This panel and the corresponding display allows a technician to interact and control the turbine system at that location. The panel is marked with ten sections, excluding the display cutout. These include sections labeled EMERGENCY STOP, OPERATION, AUXILIARY DISPLAY, DISPLAY FUNCTIONS, DISPLAY CURSOR, PRINTER, ALARM, DISPLAY KEYPAD, EXECUTE, and DISPLAY MODE. This panel is designed to connect to the computer framework via eight screws.

The panel operations are controlled by two PCBs that are attached to the back of the panel. The panels are affixed one on top of the other. The lower board has been mounted to the panel with its components facing toward the panel. It connects to the display by way of a ribbon cable. The upper board is marked DS3800NPSM. It communicates with the lower board by way of six wires plugged into two six pin headers, one on each board.

The DS3800NPSM PCB is built with four transistors, three high-current inductors, a toggle switch, two circuits, one fuse, one jumper switch, two LEDs (one red, one amber,) and two 6-pin connectors. The board has two large diodes and several capacitors of various material.
