Description

The DS3800NMSA is a PCB from GE for their Mark IV series. The Mark IV manages steam or gas turbines. It was an improvement in efficiency over other systems of the same time, due to the Mark IV’s ability to automate such processes as cool down and shut down. Also, the Mark IV’s basic design of integrated chipsets built with intentional overlapping responsibilities limits downtime within the entire system due to electronics failure.

The DS3800NMSA acts as a motherboard to a smaller auxiliary. This auxiliary board is designed to connect to the right middle side of the DS3800NMSA by way of six vertical board-to-board connectors. Four nylon pins are also installed to support the corners of the smaller board if it is installed.

The DS3800NMSA is built with ten integrated circuits, seventeen test points, one LED, and nine trim potentiometers. The board has one female Augat connector and one multi-pin PCB mating connector. The latter is placed on the board’s left edge. The board has been numbered by tens directly behind it.

The DS3800NMSA is drilled at all corners. For ease of insertion and extraction, clips have been installed in both right corners of the board. These extractor clips, which are made of nylon, give the technician a handle or a leverage point to use when inserting or extracting the board from tight spots. Four rigid board stiffeners have been installed on the board. These help decrease vibration and shock damage and keep the board from bending or cracking.

Technical support for the DS3800NMSA--including manuals and data sheets--was provided by General Electric.
