GE manufactured the DS3800HXTA as a Series 6 Transmitter to work within the Speedtronic Mark IV turbine control series. This system, designed for gas or steam turbine control, has integrated chipsets that make use of intentional redundancies to limit downtime. By applying the theory of controlled failure--where failures are expected, planned for and thus circumvented by secondary fail safes--the Mark IV keeps turbine systems up and running.

The DS3800HXTA has the following design specifications:

• It has 40 integrated circuits. This includes the AM26LS33ACN from Texas Instruments, which is a Quadruple differential line receiver. The AM26LS33ACN has an input impedance of 12 k Ω minimum, operates from a single 5V supply, and has open input fail-safes.

• It is factory-drilled (4 corners.)

• It has spare plated through holes (PTH) available if additional items need to be added to the board.

• It has two red LEDs. One is marked "parity ok." The other is marked "chain ok"

• It has one test point. This is marked "dcom."

• It has been built with resistor network arrays. The five arrays may be used for voltage division or may be used for digital to analog conversion.

• It has two connectors for communicating with other boards. One is male and one is female. These are located on opposite sides of the PCB.
