Description

The DS3800NTBG is a PCB or printed circuit board manufactured by General Electric for their Mark IV series. The MKIV replaced the MKI and MKII as GE’s primary gas and steam turbine management systems. It introduced the use of microprocessors to run multiple integrated platforms that continuously monitor the turbine for issues like high pressure, fire, vibration, and over-speed.

While not specified as a thermocouple card, the DS3800NTBG is built with two thermocouple components. The MKIV is designed to use many thermocouple cards. For example, the exhaust temperature is measured by thirteen individual thermocouples located around the exhaust plenum, using a control algorithm that calculates an average of all but the highest and lowest values of those thirteen. It is easy to understand then, why all cards need to be kept in excellent working order to avoid statistical losses or engine problems.

The DS3800NTBG has been drilled twice in each corner. Screws inserted through these drill points travel through vertical spacers and connect the board to a DIN mounting plate while keeping a gap between the two components. The board has a waffle pattern printed on its surface; screw mountings and through-hole components avoid this pattern.

Three vertical pin PCB mating connectors are located near the top edge of the DS3800NTBG. Three lines of capacitors are located toward the center of the board. Two large thermocouple components are located at either side of the board.

The DIN mounting plate under the PCB has two downward facing flanges and one upward facing flange. The upward facing flange has several screw holes drilled through it and has a line of quick-connect screw mounts on its top edge. Tech support for the DS3800NTBG was provided by GE.
