Description

The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800DMPC features 1 programmable timer module (TPM). The GE Microprocessor Board DS3800DMPC also is populated with 1 34-pin ribbon cable, 1 50-pin ribbon cable, and 3 jumpers. The board is also populated with multiple capacitors.

The capacitors repeat the cycle of storing and releasing high-voltage electricity many times per minute during normal processing. The operator is unaware of the cycle during normal operation. However, when the drive is stopped and power is removed prior to replacing or repairing the board, high-voltage electricity might be stored in the capacitors. If not handled correctly, this could be a safety hazard. If the board is touched while the high-voltage electricity is present, an electric shock or burn can injure the technician. It could also lead to damage to the components or a fire. However, the solution is easy and does not require any tools, or special knowledge. Wait 30 seconds for the electric energy to dissipate before you touch the components.

Removing electricity from the drive is critical before you touch the boards or other equipment in the drive. Keep in mind that several sources of electricity are supplied to the drive and that all sources must be removed before you can touch the drive. If you are not familiar with how the drive is powered, it is best practice to confer with an electrician or engineer who was present when the drive was installed. If that is not possible review the wiring diagrams for the site. Also note how the power is shut off to the drive.
